Here are some sample entries from The Difference a Day Makes:
#36 Inspire a shutterbug. Provide a child with a used or new camera and invite him or her to capture life on film. For inspiration, visit the Boys & Girls Clubs of America's ImageMaker's online gallery at bgca.org (click on Programs, then The Arts).
#72 Leverage penny power. United Nations' guidelines call for wealthy countries to contribute 1 percent of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to foreign aid for impoverished countries. Few nations, including the United States, comply. The Pennies for Peace campaign urges children to send a letter to Congress supporting a foreign aid budget of 1 percent of GDP. Attach a penny -- 1 percent of a dollar -- to point out that, in Pakistan and Afghanistan, one cent buys a pencil to help a child learn to read and write. Sample letters are available at penniesforpeace.org/about_congress.html .
#97 Arm yourself with knowledge. Know what the gun laws are in your state. Visit atf.treas.gov/firearms/statelaws or write to your state legislators. Then order a free "Stop 2" kit from The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence and share it with your area schools, faith community, civic organization, or community center. Visit bradycenter.org/stop2 or contact: The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence 1225 Eye Street NW, Suite 1100 Washington, DC 20005 202-289-7319
#157 Explore living history. One of the most powerful ways to learn history is to talk with someone who has lived it. Ask a friend over the age of sixty who is of another race or religion -- or a family member from another nation or culture -- to describe his or her experiences growing up.
